I’m a google user since right after they came out of beta, and one thing I like about Google is their sense of humor when they make special logos for holidays and other occasions. I was thinking that there should be an archive of these, and lo and behold! there is – on google’s own pages.

Not just kaeng is adding one to the counter, I’m getting older, too. Tomorrow is my thirty-first birthday, and looking back, it’s been a pretty good year.
Other “firsts” this year:
Es schneit! Heute ist der erste Tag, wo ich aus meinem Bürofenster den Schnee fallen sehen kann, Snowboardsaison ist nicht mehr weit. Obwohl der Schnee dafür ja erstmal liegen bleiben müsste.
… ich glaub, ein paar Groschen hab’ ich mir verdient.
Als ich ein kleiner Junge war, bin ich auf einen Schneidezahn gefallen. Der ist dabei ziemlich kaputt gegangen, alle Nerven weg und so. und hat später eine Wurzelbehandlung gehabt. Dann ist er einige Zeit später mit einem kleinen Stab aus Titan befestigt worden, und die Wurzel komplett weg. Dunkel war er dann auch schon immer.
Dann war wieder 10 Jahre Ruhe, und vor einem Jahr war er dann and er Wurzel vereitert. Das aht gedauert bis ich das gemerkt hab (weil ja kein Nerv mehr da war), und so hat das dann schon etwas den Knochen angegraben. Zahnarzt hier in Oslo sagt: Der muß weg. Kommt ein Implantat rein. So wie die Eishockeyspieler das alle haben 🙂 35.000 Kronen (norwegische, nicht Zahn-).
Jetzt ist er schon ein paar Monate raus, und ich hab nen Fake-Zahn stattdessen. Vor einigen Wochen war ich zur zweiten OP, etwas Knochen transplantieren um den geschädigten Knochen wieder aufzubauen. Bei der Gelegenheit dann auch schonmal das Gewinde eingesetzt. Mit 6 Stichen zu, fertig. Woche drauf wieder hin, Fäden ziehen.
Im Januar kommt die nächste OP, denn auf das Gewinde kommt erstmal noch ein Aufsatz drauf, und auf den kommt dann später das Implantat, und dann bin ich wieder ein fast normaler Cyborg.
Danach kümmern wir uns um die verbliebenen 3 Weisheitszähne, fürchte ich.
Die Nachttemperatur in Oslo ist ei 0°C angekommen, tagsüber kriegen wir mal eben noch 5°C wenn sich die Sonne anstrengt. Noch ist kein Schnee gefallen, aber in Beitostølen, wo ich letztes Wochenende war, lag schon welcher – die sind dort nicht so nah an der Küste.
Das heißt natürlich vor allem eines: Die Skisaison fängt bald an!
So wie die Leute auf dem Foto sieht das bei uns nicht aus, und ich selber halte ja von Skiern eh nicht so viel, dafür aber vom Snowboard umso mehr. Diesen Winter habe ich fest geplant, das ich mir eins kaufe, statt wieder jedesmal eins leihen zu müssen. So oft, wie ich plane damit in den Bergen zu sein, sollte sich das lohnen 🙂 Und wenn’s gut geht, dann sind wir nach Silvester auch wieder in Hemsedal. Dort geht dank Schneekanonen die Saison bald auch schon los.
I bought new climbing shoes a while ago. They were on sale for just 600 NOK ($86), and I couldn’t let that opportunity pass, although my current shoes (Boreal Pyros) are still really good.
This is my fourth pair, Red Chili Habaneros, and they fit me really nice in the store. I’m saving them for a really difficult day, where I need the extra bit of support on a piece of small structure 🙂
Der Zoo in Cincinatti hat zwei Sumatra-Nashörner. Das Baby Rhino kann man sich im Web auf einer Rhino Cam anschauen. Das coole: Die Kamera hat ein Applet, mit dem man sie fernsteuern kann, wenn das kleine mal nicht perfekt zur Kamera positioniert ist.
Habe gerade dem Zoowärter beim Ausmisten zugeschaut. Anderen bei der Arbeit zugucken ist fast so toll wie selber arbeiten…
Es gibt auf der Welt noch etwa 300 Sumatra-Nashörner, von allen 5 Nashorn-Arten sind sie damit nach den Java-Nashörnern (60 Exemplare) am zweitmeiten bedroht. Leider klappt mein Plan, mit savetherhino.org nach Borneo zu fahren, dieses Jahr nicht (wegen der E3, die kurz danach ist), aber dafür fange ich jetzt an, für Anfang Oktober 2004 den Trip zum Kilimanjaro zu planen. Mehr Infos dazu kommen später sicher noch…
Last week I finished dogs of riga, the second book in the Kurt Wallander series. Like the previous two books I read from Henning Mankell, it is an excellent crime novel. This time it plays in the early 90s, times of change in Latvia where Wallander is sent to investigate a murder. I’m reading this in norwegian, to improve my working vocabulary, and it’s working out quite nicely. It’s apparently better to read it in swedish, though. Oh, well…
Yesterday I finished another classic, the lonelyness of the long-distance runner. It’s a short story, and was apparently hailed because it’s an early example of literature from a working-class perspective. I’m not sure it’s such an important book today. The narrative is interesting, though, it’s one long monologue that the main character has while he’s running.
She’s not from Mattel, so not officially a Barbie doll. But Razanne is Muslim and I bet there’s a big market for a doll like her.

A few months ago I discovered tinyurl.com. It takes a long URL and generates a short one for you. So http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/3423202947 becomes http://tinyurl.com/q4wz, which is a dynamically generated redirection to the original page.
What can you use that for? Anytime that space is precious. I use it for ebay links in news postings, for links in IRC topics, for email messages and SMS. I even use it in my mail signature to make references for literary quotes 🙂
