On the OpenOffice.org marketing list, John McCreesh summarized very well how we all feel about Visual Basic:
Corporates hate VB with an undying rage. Some spotty kid in Accounts hacks together some VB, Access, and Excel because the IT guys have a waiting list ten miles long. Accounts become totally dependent on this ‘system’ to close the books. Spotty kid goes off to get a life. Suddenly MegaCorp comes to a leap year and the killer app in VB can’t cope. No-one in Accounts has a clue how it works, and call in the guys in IT to fix it because “it’s a computer system”. Oh, we’ve all been there, many times.
Despite the tragedy of it all, I couldn’t help but smile 🙂
Tehe. I once was such a "spotty kid" (without the spots). Hm, I wonder if they’re still using my code.
